Any one just howl with their mate? I love to do it and it brings us closer.

No, but that sounds incredible. When did you start doing it?

Been doing it a long time. Just felt so good to do some thing on my mates level. Throw your head back and hoooooooooooooooooowl. You will get a responce. It is supposed to bring the pack togather. It feels so right to me. Enjoy.

I wish. The only thing I've done thats similar is sat on my back deck at night and howled with the coyotes in the woods behind our house. I've always wondered if I'm actually communicating anything to them accidentally, haha. Just imagining the 'yotes sitting around listening to my wailing and thinking "Yeah, up yours too, bud!"

The howl in the wild actually serves a purpose in the wild. Human ears are not acute enough to break down its individual parts. functionally it works like a daily pack status update, that is passed from pack to pack. With the howl, a pack alpha can discern exactly what is going on with his neighboring packs and how it affects his pack. Oh yes, this is yet one more thing that is controversial in the realm of scientific animal studies. Because it dares to suggest animals other than whales can also create a highly organized language system.

I totally agree. I have been told by people that work with captive wolves, that when say they take the wolves to a educational event (like to a nature center, or school) and tell the crowd to howl that the wolves exhibit a diverse set of behaviors depending on how the crowd howls, from simply doing nothing, to excitedly howling back, to fighting/growling with each other. While I have not gotten a wolf to howl, I have gotten some dogs to howl if I howl, and occasionally a horse to neigh, if I neigh.
