Going through accepting being zoosexual. (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2014-10-07 16:43:07 by [deleted]

I figured out I was attracted to male dogs about 3 or 4 years ago now and i'm currently 18 and trying to accept it. I'm confused about a lot of things right about now and if anyone is out there willing to talk about it that would be a lot of help.

G'day, There is a lot of stuff you are going to be going through. I'd recommend a nice zoo forum to chat in amongst friendlies. I'm not sure reddit is the best place. Try http://knotty.me and you can also send me messages if you would like.

A few internet safety tips, find and use a VPN, always try use https, and be careful of public wifi. Good luck!

Why should I use a vpn? I understand what it is but I'm not sure why it would help me. How do I make sure I use https and how do I get a vpn without money.

Anyone who is in charge of your local network (parents, teachers/employers, the pub whose WiFi you're using) can see which websites you're visiting. If you use a VPN, the VPN can tell, but nobody else can.

HTTPS will keep most of your communications secret, but will still leak which website you go do (because it has to do that to even start the connection). I think it hides everything except the domain name, so visiting https://www.reddit.com/r/zoophilia will show up in logs as https://www.reddit.com/■■■■■■■■■ — useful for mixed content places like reddit, but pointless if you ever visit, say, ratemygoat.co.uk

If you have Firefox or Chrome, you can install "HTTPS everywhere", which tries to make every connection an HTTPS connection. Unfortunately not all sites support HTTPS, but it's a start: https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere

Hideman gives you 5 free hours of VPN a week, I use it when websites have a fit with Tor.

I am not a zoo, but I know what it is like to try and accept yourself as something that other people tell you you can not be. Whatever you do, do not let others tell you it is wrong. I have talked to other zoos here, and as long as you are not forcing the animal or hurting it, there is nothing wrong with your attraction. My PM box is always open if you need a non-judgmental ear. That goes for everybody else as well.

Read a lot. I find many social restrictions are temporal, based on a time period. Books also give you access to voices, like Hani Miletski, that would otherwise be unheard in popular culture.

Hello and welcome. :)

Acceptance requires 2 things - understanding and forgiveness.

Understanding is important because it's impossible to forgive yourself if you don't know what it is you're forgiving. Making friends with zoos and reading are very good ways of raising your awareness of your sexuality and yourself. Knotty has a good list of pro-zoo media, such as articles, videos, case studies and papers. The first steps are the hardest, as you are doubtless realising, but it's downhill from here.

Forgiveness is arguably more important than understanding, but it cannot be done without it. It is important to learn to love and accept yourself for who you are, because in a cold world like this one, it is often the case that you will be the only one who does. Understanding allows you to clear yourself of guilt in your mind, and it is then that you can come to terms with it, and live a healthy life full of love and passion, without the emotional baggage bestowed upon you by society's conditioning. Love yourself.

Good VPNs are the benchmark standard in online privacy, though if you go for one, I cannot stress the importance of choosing one that doesn't log at all. Here is on overview of common VPN providers and their security features. Never cheap out on them though - any commercial online service that is free uses you as the product, rather than the customer. If you do want a free solution, be sure to use Tor. Being open source and community-driven, it is technically safer than any one VPN company. I second HTTPS everywhere, though you may have to disable it for "Reddit (via pay.reddit.com)" when browsing here, as it tends to clash with reddit's inbuilt SSL. That said, it is also important that you do enable SSL for your reddit account, which can be done here. Anonymity is of paramount importance when you're of a sexuality that exists almost entirely underground. While no solution can be completely anonymous, being smart can go a hell of a long way towards protecting yourself and your animal partners.

Lastly, I'd like you to keep in mind that virtually all zoos have been in your position in the past, and future zoos will be in your position too. You are not alone, and you never will be. This community stands with open arms, because we know that nobody should have to walk alone, and when you're a zoo, very few are keen on walking with you.

i'm glad you had the courage to come looking for help. coming to terms with our feelings can be very difficult when every social cue you've ever heard about the subject has been negative.

it IS possible to love a non-human.

it IS possible for them to love you back.

it IS possible for that love to be expressed sexually. and

it IS possible to have a that non-human's consent, despite what so many anti-zoos argue.

it is important, however, to keep in mind that non-humans can also deny that consent, which needs to be respected.

as has been said... there are many good resources out there worth reading, and also various forums where you can (agreed, probably more safely than here on reddit) chat with others who've been through what you're going through now, and probably a few who are still going through it as well.

welcome.
