A tale of forbidden love

Im not a movie critic but its a pretty neat little movie short about a guy and his dog that I figure would fit in this subreddit. Its...interesting, but I cant really describe it, you just have to watch it.

In fact, this blog post gives a better synopsis than I ever could.

I love it.... up until an old woman screams "DOG FUCKEERRR!". And the credits roll and music plays like the whole film was setting up a joke. Just ruined the whole thing for me.

yeah that bit sucked, especially as the rest of it rings so true for us. I suppose it was included it so it wouldnt just be seen as a huge campaign movie in support of zoophiles. kind of like the director being all like "jeez guys you didnt think I was being serious did you!?"

I guess the world still isnt ready for a fully fledged zoo positive movie.

There was a fairly large debate on knotty as to whether it was actually an anti-zoo film or not.

Whichever way you look at it, the ending certainly leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It wasn't necessary.

Doesn't that go under "RED" because they used a Red something camera system? When it came out people called it RED.

if i remember correctly, yes.

Uhhh... ELI5 what this "RED" business is?

[deleted] 1 point on 2014-10-29 05:27:57

When this short movie was put online first, there was either some confusion or the real title was lost on people. But the camera system they used was a RED.... . Which was prominently mentioned in the first blog entry. So zoos posted around there was a new short movie named 'RED'. Or I seem to remember a few posts like this.

i guess i have a slightly different opinion of this short film. the ending hurts... but i think it fits and is good.. just in a really bad, gut-wrenching way. it's take the last few minutes of sweet, gentle caring between the man and the dog ... and shows us that despite that, society in general is still unwilling or unable to see us as anything more than dog fuckers. it's not fair, it's not right.. but it is the reality of it.

as far as the music at the end, again .. i think it's good in a horrible way - it makes the punch to the gut of being called a dog fucker despite the evidence of deep love all the more absurd and horrible. it's the "twist the knife" moment after getting stabbed. it makes the short film all the more poignant to me. the images are, IMO, further evidence to how absurd society's view of zoophilia is, though as has been said, the writer/director would never admit to being pro-zoophilia (or at least not anti-zoophilia).
