Honestly, anyone outside of this sub is just going to compare furries to zoophiles if they see these type of posts and that's not the kind of reputation that I myself as a furry want.

I think thats the crux of it. We're going to have to forge our own path to acceptance as people wont allow us to tag onto their group as supporters are usually thrown under the bus alongside us.

Well, stop looking at sexy animals, stupid.

ZoroasterTheCat 9 points on 2014-11-30 18:44:38

That's it. I made this comment elsewhere, but I will paraphrase myself: fringe groups have a tenancy to turn on other fringe groups in the endeavor to gain acceptance from the mainstream. "We might be weird, but we're not furry weird." "We might be weird, but we're not zoophile weird." You see this from the LGBT movement.

furvert_tail Equine, large canid 1 point on 2014-11-30 23:48:51

Interesting, very interesting. I did not know that.

ZoroasterTheCat 2 points on 2014-12-01 04:39:06

Well, I mean, it's not like, a rule. Just an observation I've noticed. Fringe groups do tend to be exclusive, not inclusive, toward other groups. The LGBT worked so hard at gaining mainstream acceptance, they don't want to sabotage that by throwing themselves into the Zoophile cause and risk losing their acceptability.

As a furry for over 14 years, zoo was actually the thing that got me into the fandom. I'm probably always going to be a fan of both honestly. But as with every group in society, there will always be folks who don't agree with how others live their life or what they like/dislike. Either way, as long as you're not hurting anyone, its fine in my book!

Pawwsies Canines! 8 points on 2014-11-29 22:35:54

I almost want to give furries a pass on this one, but I won't.

Furries have struggled for decades to overcome the association with zoophiles and as a result they have become rabidly against the idea.

Yirby 10 points on 2014-11-30 17:34:40

You're right. As a furry, people often associate us with bestiality and zoophiles. Until this thread, I've never had a reason to question that engaging in Zoo was anything but animal cruelty.

I apologize for the hurtful words and curt responses from furs (like myself) who really haven't thought much about this. At least for me, this thread was definitely eye opening, and I can say that in the very least, you have at least one more ally than you had before this thread started.

Pawwsies Canines! 3 points on 2014-11-30 19:05:27

I forgive you. Thank you so much for listening to us, I'm glad to hear you've decided to be supportive. We'll need more allies in the future if we wanna do anything about the injustices zoophiles and our partners go through.

I've seen a lot of bad feelings in both directions between zoo and furry. Anthropomorphs can be too human for some zoos and at the same time too feral for some… "Anthrophiles"? "Homophiles"? I'm not sure the correct word…

Myoki 6 points on 2014-11-30 07:05:04

Ironically, the general uneducated populace will quickly lump zoophiles and furries together. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Moreso, I'm even coming to find that furries active with feral/quadruped fursonas are against bestiality just as much as the anthropomorphic ones.

And as a furry zoosexual myself... It kind of blows my mind.

furvert_tail Equine, large canid 2 points on 2014-11-30 12:47:54

feral

That is a huge surprise to me, too.

[deleted] 3 points on 2014-11-30 15:29:57

I find mind-boggling how about 90% of people do never give a flying fuck about animals in any way (meat, leather, cosmetics, .... the list is so long...).

But if someone wanks a stallion not for semen collection, but because it is a fun thing for both of them, oh my god, do they come down hard on the issue of consent.

ha, ive never thought that! basically the exact same act is illegal if someone pops a boner while doing it?!

I'm curious, how do people respond to this one?

[deleted] 2 points on 2014-11-30 20:35:32

They typically either ignore that and launch a personal attack.

Or they say: Well, it is necessary to breed animals so we can eat meat (also necessary they say) to survive. So that is a natural thing to do. But the other thing is not necessary, that is unnatural.

Of course: I can vary that endlessly, but they wouldn't listen from that point on anyway: If I sponge a mare's literally dirty vagina, I am just cleaning her, which is necessary to avoid infections. IF I sponge on beyond the point of ok cleanliness, because she seems to like it, and I find it interesting, too, then that is animal abuse. You know, just as they say: Sponging the mare more than twice is playing with it.

Or petting a dog: Many like being petted on the belly and present it for that. Masses of people are doing that right now. But if you pet a little bit deeper... and deeper and NOW it is animal abuse. Where is the line? On the penis, a hand away from the penis? At the navel? Is to the left or right of the penis ok? How much up the leg do I need to go to make that ok? Of course, during the vet visit when the dog's balls where cut off, nobody made any kind of fuss about touching the dog there, whether it consents to being touched there - not to mention consent to having his balls cut off. And now someone will have the urge to tell me that it is "necessary" to neuter pets...

I can't understand why most people don't even consider a vasectomy if their goal is to prevent their male animals from having offspring...

[deleted] 3 points on 2014-11-30 21:56:37

From what I understand you can have that done, but typically that is about 10% to 20% more expensive.

Also, let's be honest here - the reason is not only birth control. With a vasectomy the balls stay in and keep producing testosteron. Without balls the male dogs at least are less aggressive, easier to handle, stay cuter for longer...

zoozooz 7 points on 2014-11-30 22:16:47

10% to 20% more expensive

Wow, who can afford that!

less aggressive, easier to handle, stay cuter

I have seen that over and over again of course, but I always read "I do like dogs but wouldn't it be better if they were a little less like dogs?"...

That argument sounds very much like the arguments used for lobotomies.

IIRC non of it is even true. The only thing that possibly get curbed is same-sex dog-dog aggression, fear aggression and human aggression even rise.

I'm actually very pleasantly surprised by how well that thread is going. The hysterical haters are getting downvoted and their arguments challenged. Kudos to the guys from over here raiding constructively engaging.

Tundrovyy-Volk Canidae 3 points on 2014-11-30 19:27:14

I must say, I'm very surprised at the way this has turned out. I posted this when almost all my comments had been downvoted to hell and I thought it would be just another hate thread - I was wrong. Thank you to all of you who helped tell our side, and thank you to the furs who listened. I hope this can represent the beginning of something good for all of us.
