PSA: United Kingdom. Ownership of porn involving animals could land you up to 3 years in prison. (self.zoophilia)

Knowing that ownership of pornography involving animals was illegal over there (and faced with the prospect of having to move back :/ ) I decided to check out what the actual punishments would be.

"Possession of extreme pornographic images is an either way offence and the maximum penalty for possession of extreme pornographic images for an act which threatens a person's life or an act which results in or is likely to result in serious injury on indictment is three years' imprisonment. For possession of other extreme images the maximum penalty is two years' imprisonment."

Also, even if the pictures are of you and your mate, that can't be used as a defence: " 'Participation in consensual acts'.

The defence set out in section 66 of the Act applies where the possessor of an extreme pornographic image proves firstly that he was a participant in the act depicted, and secondly that no harm - other than harm that can be and was lawfully consented to - occurred to any of the participants. This defence does not apply in respect of bestiality images."

Great. Now, while I find it hard to imagine you'll actually get more than a suspended sentence the fact that you can get jail time is definitely a bit scary.

Stay safe over there.

Doesn't a similar law also include just plain ol' fetish-y stuff too? Or did they get rid of that? I thought I heard something about it a while back.

I went on Wiki to dig a little to learn more and

Adults sentenced to at least two years will be placed on the Violent and Sex Offender Register.

Holy shit. What on earth?? So even if you just have an image of anything that qualifies as an "extreme pornographic image," that you had no part in making or even interest in doing in real life, you get put on the sex offender list. I can't believe this, I had no idea about that part. You can't make this shit up.

oh I forgot to mention that not allowing the police to access your encrypted files is also illegal, punishable with up to 2 years in prison. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_disclosure_law#United_Kingdom

Damned if you do and damned if you dont...

There's always plausibly deniable encryption, which seems to be the best way to keep safe and prevent ramifications down the line.

true but its a step that shouldnt need to be taken. Also its a bit of a pain in the ass to set up.

Couldn't one have a "secret button" on your computer that would delete everything on your computer, and then fill it up with nonsense (because when one deletes on Windows, it is still their, until it is replaced with something else, such as gibberish in this case)

I can't believe how fucked up the UK has become over the last couple years, who the hell is writing these laws and getting them passed? They're two steps away from becoming a full blown sharia country!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCywGhHQMEw was supposed to be a parody 10 years ago but it sure is starting to look like UK reality in 2015

Ironic because I did dry hump a stuffed tiger (an expensive one, FAO Schwarz website) a few days ago (tiger was a siblings not mine)

I don't want to be an arse, but I am so glad I left the UK. Not only is it soon practically impossible to be a zoo there (or well, it's way too dangerous), but so much more makes it depressing to live there. The rain, the stuck-up attitude of your neighbors, the low wages, the housing crisis etc. But they have beautiful hunters, I must say.

Didn't the legal term "extreme pornography" originally mean only that the video contained rape/simulated rape and nothing specifically about animals or minors? I guess I answered my own question (I do that alot even when I am wrong) because some people would consider any sex with another species as rape.

Australia is much the same - bestiality porn carries the same penalties as child porn here.

Encrypt your way to safety.

holy shit! speak of the devil eh?!

I guess hindsight is 20/20 but it doesnt look like he had encrypted the files. The courts dont like it if youre a previous offender and he paid the price. poor guy, those 6 months are gonna suck.
