While I'm sure he'll hate being linked here, I think that this paragraph is worth reading the entire article... A lesson for anyone who wishes social change.

I’ve worked in the LGBT movement for 15 years. At first, we, too, tried a political approach, talking about equal rights, civil rights, and so on. But the movement’s PR people found these messages weren’t working. So, in the 2000s, we shifted. We worked in the cultural arena instead, with pioneers like Ellen and Will & Grace. We went into churches and synagogues, testifying about our lives and our families. We changed people’s hearts, not their laws. We also found messengers who could communicate the truth of our lives. Sure, there are radicals in the LGBT community who really are opposed to mainstream values—and some of them are my friends! But there are also moderates, even conservatives. The LGBT movement looked for places where we could find common ground, and focused there.

I agreed with the article. Politically, I'm sort of a mix (fiscally conservative, socially liberal), but it's pretty clear that the more Christians get into politics as a voting bloc, the more they begin to resemble the Pharisees and Sadducees that Jesus despised so much. Legislation can do a lot of things, but it can't change people's minds on issues they feel strongly about. For that, you actually have to talk to them.

so what we need is a comedy series involving a human and dog duo? :P

But seriously, that was an interesting article. They seem to say they know that they're being taken advantage of, so why do they continue to vote republican?

Also, even though we cant tag along with the LGBT crowd I'm willing to bet our journey to acceptance will look very similar and the principals will stay the same. Common ground should be easy enough to find seeing as many pet owners claim to love their animals.
