Japan and zoophilia/bestiality? (self.zoophilia)

I'm not talking about porn. I'm talking about all the anime that references interspecies relationships. I understand that some, like Inuyasha, are similar to Roman/Greek myths.

What are your thoughts about zoophilia in public? Do people consider it as such?

Japan's shame-based culture is something I find fascinating, and I've spent a good amount of time researching and talking to English-speaking Japanese people online over the last couple of years to get a sense of what Japan thinks of zoophilia as a whole. As best I can ascertain, it is less taboo than it is in the West, but the taboos that do exist are more prohibitive.

As in most places, zoophilia met with distaste, but since Japanese culture is based on how you are perceived rather than how you view yourself, the risk of being socially ostracised is greater, which carries with it detrimental implications. For example, if you live alone with a dog for whom you have a visible attachment, it is more likely that suspicions will be raised than it might in a country with a guilt-based society.

While it is fairly easy to buy a large property and live with animals in peace in the West, it would be more prohibitive in Japan because you would likely be silently shunned as an outsider, a creep, someone to be feared because you lay outside society; this could extend even so far as to damage your career, for example. One cannot simply "not give a fuck about what others think" in Japan.

Bestiality can be legal and even publicly visible (in terms of anime) in Japan because its culture is self-regulating, casting out what it deems unsuitable. It can be legal in Japan because the punishment of ostracism is a deterrent enough. We have bestiality laws because people are more likely to test what is and is not socially acceptable: if we were not, then the laws would not be in place, just as they are not in Japan.

  1. The Prime Minster worked voluntarily for no pay during the Nuclear Power Plant failure. 2. Vending Machines that sell cigarettes, that on your honor one is not to purchase if underage. 3. Masturbation if done should only occur in the toilet room.

While a little off topic, there are stables in Tokyo, that foreigners can ride in (3000 yen). However the way sport clubs work in Japan, with their initiation fee and yearly fee, and monthly fee, and per lesson fee, it is expensive. However this is not limited to horse sports, it is common with any type of sport in Japan.
