Relevant bit... Some poly writers were mollified, others were not—but I learned that many, many poly folks (but not all) strongly feel that polyamory is a sexual orientation. The writer and kinkster Jillian Keenan, for her part, has argued that BDSM—sadomasochism—is a sexual orientation. Jesse Bering has argued that zoophilia is not a behavior but a "minority sexual orientation." James Cantor has argued (and has ten year's worth of research backing him up) that paedophilia should be understood as a sexual orientation ("a biologically rooted condition that does not change'), although one that can never be acted on. (Cantor argues that we can better help pedophiles not to act on their desires if we approach it as an orientation—a tragic and troubling one—and not a choice.)

I am a bit annoyed that, at least in my state, sexual orientation discrimination laws specifically list what sexual orientations can be used for a lawsuit. Bi, hetero, or homo (and some stuff about perceptions and preferences, etc.) Probably it's done that way so pedophiles can't sue for discrimination, but still, it doesn't leave much room for future improvement.

yeah... that part was nice, but the later part about zoophilia not being ok because animals can't consent.... grrr...... people need to fucking wake up.

As someone in a polyamorous relationship, I'm of a mind to agree. I can't call it an "orientation" by any stretch of the word. Those involved in polyarmorous relationships can have varying orientations but being polyamorous in itself is certainly not an "orientation".

However as the article points out, no employer should be allowed to terminate based on your private life, for so long as it does not interfere in the lives or operation of the company. I'd be more than a little pissed if my job was put in jeopardy because I live with my two girlfriends or whatever.

Oh, and they got zoophilia wrong again. That's not a surprise though.

Yea, poly as an orientation doesn't fly with any of the "orientation" tests I've learned from studying zoophilia.

In the end, it is a matter of poor worker rights than the employer feels they have any right to "control" the worker outside of the workplace. Of course, the "crazy public" will come at you sideways and never directly attack you where you can properly defend.
