Hey west_dogger. I can't speak for this community, but just so you know, you are potentially dragging people into the middle of deep trauma. Zoos are heavily repressed by our society, rarely listened to, many end up feeling broken and many attempt suicide. This is a safe space for them; but the post you've just shared injects that same poison into it, of closed minded people attacking them for who they are, for having desires they didn't choose, for engaging in consensual activity that is nobody elses business. I know you're not doing this yourself but you may accidentally perpetrate feelings of social isolation through actions you evidently consider entertaining. Be careful. Don't toy with other people's vulnerabilities.

Actually to follow on from what I just said, I could be all wrong. This is all pretty new to me, I'm not a zoophile but I love one. That means I didn't grow up in this mindstorm, I have very little barometer. People in that chat are pretty closed minded and some pretty nasty (nothing quite so nasty as the banning), I can't rate the intensity of it, all I know is it's a groupthink style unhelpful discussion. But perhaps, OP, your goal was actually to create an open discussion and bring this topic into the wider arena a bit, in which case I apologise.
I do think that in order to challenge beliefs people need to feel safe first. Thats why debates never work, if we sense an attack we fortify. We need open discussions, 1:1 conversations, that kinda thing? I'd be really curious to learn what zoos think about this.

It's a mixed bag. People will listen when they choose to listen and while they are more open about themselves in 1:1 conversations it's usually the big debates that bring new thoughts for people to examine. This particular thread didn't seem useful though.
As for feeling safe, I'll gladly tell folks pretty much any bit of my life if I can be assured harm will not come to myself of my partners.
Even now though(after 30 years of this internet thing), something that my psychologist said to me about the nature of textual debates, if you read "Zoos are disgusting" over and over again, you always read it in your own voice to yourself. So you do have to be careful about which conversations you participate in and in what context you make an effort to educate.
I do wish my wife would join up here and talk to folks. Unfortunately, experiences on ZF have pretty much turned her against the zoo community although she's extremely supportive of several individual zoos including myself.
