Okay, okay, we all know people fantasize about interspecies pregnancy ("durr-hurr-hurr, this turns me on!", etc.). Let's think about it some more.
I can't help but wonder how people would react if such a thing really became possible. It goes without saying that it would be a near-miracle of science because of differences in anatomy, genes, body temperature, etc. The question interests me.
I think I would be very interested in impregnating a canine partner, if it was possible. But, of course, the idea and the reality can be two different things. Would the rest of the subreddit become the father or mother of a different species, if it was scientifically possible? Is that, in any way, a natural extension of a zoophilic relationship? Hell, what would that mean for society if humans were able to breed with different species? What would it do to our definition of "human"?
Let's discuss. I think there would be some serious culture wars that would make what happened with African-American rights in the '60s look like a mere skirmish.

I'm pretty sure thoughts of interspecies sexuality was the cause of werewolf myths.
There's one problem. I don't think human-canine offspring will be as cute as people envision them.
The trailer took my breath away. The picture did not. :/ Does put a bit of a damper in my vision. It would be somewhat impossible to control the result of a genetic fusion, wouldn't it?
Scientists could "program" the cells in a way so that certain ones would only activate after certain milestones. I think after a while scientists could "perfect" the art creating true masterpiece Furries.
Maybe. What would stop them, in that case, from just creating an organism in a lab? It would be easier than letting a natural(ish) mating process run its course.
I asked a molecular biologist friend of mine this about 15 years ago. He thought it would be quite straightforward to genetically modify human skin cells to be furry, the problem being the high risk of cancer from the method used — to do this on (for example) an adult, you'd have to take a cell sample, modify it in vitro, culture it into a transplant-sized item to make sure you hadn't accidentally an entire melanoma, and then replace the patient's own skin with it.

I also enjoyed the trailer.
i liked a lot about that movie. and yes, that sculpture is kinda.. yikes.. but also seems realistic, so i agree.. "be careful what you wish for (at least before manipulation and engineering are possible)
To me, the most likely variety of this would a sort of human-animal hybrid, created with stem cells to have certain similarities to the tissues of human donors. It does raise some ethical questions related to the idea that these animals with human-like brains might need to be given rights similar to human beings (though this sort of intelligence uplift isn't even close to happening yet). I don't know if that will ever happen, but if the technology were perfected, I'd love for my (hypothetical) lover to become pregnant with another member of their species, and then have the fetus injected with my stem cells to have some traits similar to me. I'd love to raise a dog-son with some of my intelligence, and maybe have the first dog capable of doing calculus. Probably not, but that sounds fantastic.
Well I'll be damned.
Well in terms of fantasy, you're right, the idea of "breeding" with a dog is a turn-on for me. But no, if it were reality I wouldn't be interested.
I don't want to have children (human or otherwise in this case!). So, to me, being able to have sex with a dog with no risk of reproduction is actually a great thing. One of the perks of being zoo. lol
True that. I'm not a commitment person, so when I say I'm interested in the possibility of fathering hybrids, my fantasy might be getting in the way of my practical vision.
I think the definition of "human" would become very blurred. The hybrid would be too human to live life as a dog, but too much of a dog to live life as a human.
I think it'd be just human enough to force people to reevaluate how "wrong" bestiality is, for those who argue that animals are "beneath" us somehow.
Doubt it — there is a birth defect sheep can get which gives the lamb a very human face. I only know about it because it gets in the news as "Bestiality suspected!", and the first of these stories was "unfortunately, scientists were not able to examine the lamb because it had been cremated by the locals".
I think bestiality hatred come in two almost mutually exclusive forms: either "Animals are innocent children!" or "We are superior, and this degrades us!", and the latter was also the reason why inter-racial marriage was seen so negatively, and mixed-race kids have been treated as outcasts in both communities.
Have been. Things changed over time. It would take longer for mixed-species kids to be accepted, but I think it would.
Oh, I didn't mean to imply it would never be accepted, only that it would be a long and slow process.
I imagine that the hybrid would be stabbed or shot outside a bar somewhere for being different (or having separate species parents) and due to bigotry or simple lack of numbers, nobody would notice, report or care.
Can you imagine how tough high school would be for your sons and daughters?
I hadn't thought about it on that level. When I spoke about culture wars, I had been thinking broadly. But yeah. No public high school for these kids. Not in our present society. There has to be at least a few communities out there in the world where hybrids could be accepted. An island in the Pacific, perhaps?
I think they might have to be home-schooled, and get a job where they can work from the safety of their home. On the flip side, I'd bet they would be A Guest Of Honor at every furry convention.

??????????
shrugs thats what came to my mind when I picture a dog/human hybrid lol.
"Turn your jack russell into a jacked russell." I'm buying it.
