Things would be so much better if animals could speak to us using a human language (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2015-04-20 00:51:04 by ursusem

No one would be against zoophilia if animals could do this. If animals could speak then all humans would know exactly what they think and everyone could see whether animals are content with the relationships that they have with humans or whether they are not content.

Maybe. I actually like the fact its all body language. Makes it feel more 'real' IMO. Kinda hard to explain, but I like how you have to pay attention to what dog is trying to tell you without the use of language as an easy way out. Its just one of the things that I enjoy as a zoo.

I certainly wouldn't want animals to think like humans because I like the way that animals are but when it comes to another PERSON and the possibility of rape is there, the possibility of taking advantage of someone is there and that person's brain is not genetically human, that's when I don't want things to be VAGUE

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 4 points on 2015-04-20 01:29:22

from what I can gather, you're trying to hold animals the same standard as humans? Animals arent as complicated though (another reason I like them).

ursusem 0 points on 2015-04-20 01:42:44

How can you be sure that it is true that animals aren't as complicated as us humans?

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 4 points on 2015-04-20 01:57:34

you're over analysing this IMO. take a breath, observe what the animal is telling you, and take it at face value. It really is that simple.

ursusem 0 points on 2015-04-20 02:03:57

I think this is a serious matter. I won't be relaxed about it. Besides what if there is more to them than what they can communicate? Wouldn't they wish to communicate that too? I just think it is strange to go your whole life never wanting to tell someone something. You can't communicate a great many things using only body language.

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 5 points on 2015-04-20 02:08:55

well yeah but I doubt dogs give a toss about politics, economics etc.

ursusem 0 points on 2015-04-20 02:12:38

Why would they not give a toss about politics or economics (I don't even care about that stuff half the time tbh)?

ulungu dogsdogsdogsdogsdogs, and coyotes too I guess 2 points on 2015-04-20 05:07:55

Why would they care?

ursusem 0 points on 2015-04-20 05:40:54

What happens in human politics and economics affects the owner of any animal, affects the planet, affects the dog. Logically, the dog should be interested

ulungu dogsdogsdogsdogsdogs, and coyotes too I guess 3 points on 2015-04-20 06:07:33

Perhaps they SHOULD, but that doesn't mean that they WOULD.

Even if you somehow explained everything to a dog, there is no reason to believe that they would even be able to comprehend politics or economics, so they certainly won't care. Dogs are not humans.

ursusem 1 point on 2015-04-20 14:34:16

I have a different view of animals.

ulungu dogsdogsdogsdogsdogs, and coyotes too I guess 2 points on 2015-04-20 23:07:55

Then... your view is simply wrong. They can't even understand basic math, how could they understand economics or even politics?

ursusem -2 points on 2015-04-20 02:07:53

What if you wanted to have a special connection with them and you didn't want them to forget you? They might not even know your name. Maybe they don't actually care about you you would never know!

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 4 points on 2015-04-20 02:12:02

What if you wanted to have a special connection with them and you didn't want them to forget you?

I went 5 years without seeing my nans dog whom I was close with, and he remembered me when I saw him again. Is that long enough?

They might not even know your name.

so?

ursusem -2 points on 2015-04-20 02:16:15

How do you know he remembered you? The name thing matters because if you're trying to have a romantic relationship that requires a meeting of minds- you need to know the cultural context in which the other one lives

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 3 points on 2015-04-20 04:45:50

How do you know he remembered you?

I love thinking back to that day, truly heartwarming. basically we just did the exact same things we always did together, in the exact same way we did them.

The name thing matters because if you're trying to have a romantic relationship that requires a meeting of minds- you need to know the cultural context in which the other one lives

youve lost me.

Sounds like you are trying to attach human qualities to a non-human animal. Animals are animals, they don't have an agenda other than to be comfortable and live their lives.

ursusem -1 points on 2015-04-20 04:19:44

What is uniquely "human" about what I had just described?

ursusem 1 point on 2015-04-20 01:43:59

Where does animal intellect stop and at what point does a mind demonstrate human intellect?

They would if they understood how the technology worked.

My horses figured out how to undo the latches to their stall door...I don't think they would be too successful at using a computer.

ursusem -2 points on 2015-04-20 04:16:21

We need to map out the non-human brain is what we have to do.

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 4 points on 2015-04-20 05:39:11

are you kkllee?

danpetman 0 points on 2015-04-20 12:23:26

It took you saying it for me to think about it, but yeah, you might actually be onto something here. It's been so long since I dealt with one that I'd almost forgotten sockpuppets were a thing...

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 2 points on 2015-04-20 15:10:57

aparently they arent, which is relieving. They do sound similar though IMO, so I just wanted to clarify if they were or not.

It doesnt matter who they are though, its not healthy to have this kind of thinking as a zoophile. Not allowing yourself to love an animal because you have imposed self-made rules upon yourself is pretty toxic thinking. The sooner they can get over that the better, although it might take a while.

ursusem 0 points on 2015-04-20 14:31:05

I am not that individual. Why do you ask this?

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 3 points on 2015-04-20 14:56:45

Fair enough. Your answers about needing to understand animals are similar to another guys point of view. I was starting to think all the replys were for nothing as that guy is like talking to a brick wall.

science still has a long way to come. its still frowned upon in the scientific community to research about sex. They are fairly recently trying to understand the dogs brain and thoughts a little bit better though, article here

Nowix 5 points on 2015-04-20 10:42:34

However... animals don't speak human. So there's that. Body language can't lie. Language can.

edit: Reading a bit more posts of you, I get the feeling you think animals have no ability to properly express themselves somehow?

ursusem 1 point on 2015-04-20 14:28:58

No, I believe that they can express themselves. But a lot of times I don't know what they mean by the things they do. There are a lot of things that I would like to express to them but I don't know how to express those things without the use of my human language.

Nowix 3 points on 2015-04-20 15:31:58

So if I get this correctly, you're afraid to misinterpret the animal you love (and maybe end up doing something wrong)?

Honestly, having a relation with an animal is similar as with a human. If you are perfectly in tune with each other, you'll find you don't need words to know what the other wants or doesn't want. You just know. If you however do get unsure, you just stop. As simple as that.

There have been moments when I wasn't sure if the animal enjoyed it or not. So I stopped. And all I got was a dog that got annoyed at me for stopping. Hard to misinterpret that really and it made me feel much more at ease.

How much hands-on experience do you have with animals (non-zoo that is). How familiar are you with the behaviour of your animal of choice?

Yearningmice 2 points on 2015-04-20 19:25:16

Honest, I would not want my mare to change who she is to get a more human perspective. My lover is pure horse and that's how I love her.
