What exactly is the attraction to? (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2015-05-21 07:12:49 by Crazy_ManMan Not a zoo, but a friend.

This never occurred to me until very recently but as a zoophile are you only attracted to specific animals and others not at all, or are you attracted to all animals and just prefer some more? I am guessing it is probably different for different people but I am curious about this.

It's not even for certain animals, it can also be limited to certain breeds within the species.

I'm not sure how it's for everyone else but for me I'd say it's more a personality attraction. I personally fall for the medium/bigger sized dog breeds firstly because of how they act and secondly how they look. Dogs being expressive with their body language is what interests me and is something I find hard to find in smaller breeds.

I don't understand horses at all, for example. I feel nothing for them. But I think that if I somehow spend more time with they their personality will start growing on me too eventually. But as I'm not really interested in them right now I don't really have that desire to do that.

As for the sexual attraction. I'm not really sure yet. It does overlap my romantic attraction but for different reasons I think. But it's not solid enough that I can really point out what works and doesn't work for me.

In my experience the attraction is quite variable per person. Anything from a specific feature(dog sheath for example) to multiple species so long as they aren't human.

Many say that it was a specific individual.

For me it was everything about horses, the smell, taste, feel, look and it is pretty much any breed for me. I do have types though, excessively fat or muscled horses don't tend to do as much for me.

I just never ruled animals out to begin with, so when it comes to physical attraction, I'm pretty open.

That being said, it's the mentality of horses that makes my crazy about them far more than any other species, and it's the hang ups of humans that turn me away from them regardless of how they look.

That's how it is for me. As you said, I'm sure it's different for different people.

Consider the following; is a heterosexual male attracted to all women? Women of any age, physical appearance, and personality traits? Of course not, all people have preferences in regards to a potential mate. Zoophilia is not different in this regard.

there really are a lot of similarities between how zoos feel towards animals and how normies feel towards other humans.

It's probably different for different people. For me, I have the kind of animal that I like. That is mainly talking about looks. Other than that (which would be the kind of physical pattern that I just like) what is important to me is friendliness at the very least. We need to be able to get along. He needs to be able to like me. If he doesn't like me, well, then that's pretty pointless, isn't it?

I say I have an attraction to many types of large and medium animals (horses, dogs, big cats), but that my primary sexual attraction is to horses especially ones that tend to be muscular.

For me personally, it is mostly an attraction to the inner, well, bestial side of animals. In that I mean the "primitive-ness". Although I believe in the higher bonding possible with most animals, and the intelligence that comes with that, I love the overwhelming aspects of the base instincts they act on. The attitudes and personality of the species, I guess. Hard to explain, haha. The physical aspects play a huge part too. I mean, there has been many a time where I was riding my bike or walking somewhere when I passed by a dog I did a double-take on. Its only then I understand how and why other guys stare at women as they walk by.

Considering just how vast the animal kingdom is, I doubt anybody is attracted to every species, or even MOST species. I think that if you were to catalog every species someone somewhere thought was attractive, you'd still have an extremely short list of species compared to the total number of animals.

wright-one ursidae canidae pantherinae 1 point on 2015-05-22 08:55:28

the nature or specifics of said attraction varies from species to species for me. some animals i may find cute and just am curious about their sexuality, but really couldn't act on it (in the case of many smaller mammals). some i find sexy but don't know if i'd be able to form a strong bond with them (e.g. horses). others i find absolutely gorgeous, but don't know if they'd be capable of forming a strong bond with a human (bears, hyenas, big cats, etc.). then there are dogs. bred over many thousands of years to be by our side (horses fit this description as well, but i've never had the opportunity to learn about their personalities first-hand). it's a rather natural choice (as are horses), thus why it's so common. a good fit for many reasons - attractive (many breeds, though not all, IMO), sexy, capable of forming a bond with humans and i see myself perfectly capable of forming a bond with them. they may not be the animal i find the most attractive, but it seems they're the best i could do, and i would not feel disappointed to have a canine partner in my life.

I would say things like bears and big cats certainly can form strong bonds with humans, the issue is that they do not know how to be careful with fragile humans and most cases where a big cat for example attacks its owner it is actually in an attempt to protect them from something it perceives as a danger. I have seen people from strong bonds with these kinds of animals plenty of times, but the issue is these large predators do not recognize how fragile their human companions are and often hurt them unintentionally because of that.

I always was attracted to mares only. Never had any interest in humans, dogs or other animals. Even with mares I´m kind of picky, it depends more on character and personality of the mare than on bodily features. I´m with my mare for more than 20 years now and am still in love with her strong personality, her openness, her intelligence... Riders usually know some horses that are said to be "too smart" and it´s always this type of horse I feel an instant connection with. Independence and intelligence, total non-submisssiveness, a strong will; these qualities in a female equine are what attracts me. For me, it´s not physical attraction that matters and turns a mare into "love material", it´s solely dependent on her character.

For me, primarily horses and large dogs, but I don't fully understand the pattern. I've been turned on by some other horse-like creatures (Zebra, for instance), but I don't have the words I need to describe which combinations of adjectives makes a body sexy.

For personality, it's easier. Exuberant, happy, bouncy, playful. I get a personality-turn-on from seals (AKA the dogs of the sea), but I can't imagine how the sex would even work.

(Before I read the rest of the replies) I've not heard of anyone being turned on by literally every species of animal. It would surprise me if that really happened, because, well, if all of insects, fish, birds, snakes etc. turned you on, you might not get a moment's peace.

I'm a zoo-exclusive female but I'm not really attractive to a specific species even though I love porcupines and hedgehogs a lot (due to personal reasons). Really when it comes to what turns me on the most is more so dealing with an emotional side with animals whereas the physical attraction for something doesn't really exist. I "have" been attracted to humans and also dated them but overtime they made me feel like they don't deserve any kind of sexual relationship with me and I lost interest with being with a human being. Hope that makes sense. Though I do technically see myself being straight, I really have no interest in mating with females.

So I am "attractive" or sexually emotional to about every non-human species from dogs to goats and from reptiles to insects.

That makes sense. So for you it has little to do with looks and more to do with personality, regardless of species if I am understanding correctly.

[deleted] 1 point on 2015-06-12 23:47:41

Yeah, it's still a bit odd to me but lately I been thinking that's how I view my sexual interests, like a pansexual if that would be the correct term. But instead of gender, the species doesn't really matter in the situation.

panspeciesphile? Idk, seems like there should be a word for that but there is not that I am aware of.

looks, intelligence, body type, and personality. for me that means a female kuvasz is pure perfection. I am also attracted to great pyrenees, and maremma sheepdogs but the kuvasz will always be first and foremost my true love.
