Eric Gill is most famous for designing the typeface seen on the London Underground.
Away from his art, he had sex with his siblings and the family dog, documenting all of his goings on in his diary.
From what I've read, he experimented sexually with lots of creatures, including relatives, children, and his dog. The guy was an odd sort of Catholic, but his Catholicism and his sexuality are linked in his mind. Knowing this does give a reason to notice the Hound of St. Dominic, though.
So his life was sort of like a modern day version of the play Equus, except with dogs instead of horses?
Not exactly... he didn't so much invent a new religion as layer his own beliefs on top of Catholicism, even when they contradicted. The kid in Equus is unclear about how much of Christianity he absorbed, but he worships Equus instead of the God his mother told him about.
Thanks for sharing this.
hehehe, I will never look at type-face decisions lightly. ;)
