Dementia (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2015-06-24 04:46:59 by scaredtobemyself

For life in general, my deepest darkest fear is contracting a form of dementia such as Alzheimer's. The only notion that scares me more is to think of what I might say to my family should a form of dementia develop. Not just for myself, but for any zoo. Has anyone ever considered this? I find it terrifying.

Its one reason I don't drink or do drugs. My zoo filter needs to be functioning at top efficiency 100% of the time unless I'm hanging with zooish friends. So far so good. Though I had a little joke of a slip up today. "I gotta go poke a goat" I said... Well it was worth a laugh but I needed to actually poke a goat's belly to see if I could tell she was pregnant or not. That kind of stuff you can get away with. And thats as far as you should ever go. Jokes. But not too many!

Same for me. Family wonder why I'm teetotal. Girlfriend got me drunk once and I ended up snogging a dog in front of her.

I had a friend of mine when I was still in school who used to joke around with me ALLLL the time about the "velco gloves" I must've used (before school I lived and worked on a sheep farm). He was raised on a pig farm. I always laughed it off and threw jokes back at him, but because of the amount of joking and teasing he did (and the fact he was ALWAYS the one to bring it up) I always wondered if he ever did anything...

if you have dementia everyone will just think you're nuts when you start talking about fucking animals. You could go into full detail and they'll still be laughing about the crazy shit you said when you lost it.

i HAVE actually thought about this on occasion. it doesn't terrify me (and honestly, i suppose at that point i won't know the difference anyway), but i have entertained myself every once in a while thinking up scenarios like this in my old age, in a nursing home or something.

I honestly don't think I'll care at that point. I fully intend on being one of those "I'm old, screw you" types.

...as if a zoo´s life isn´t hard enough already...;) You should live more in the here and now and avoid thinking about the future too much. Worrying too much about future will not change it, but the worries will definitely ruin your life right now if they develop into phobiae.

@rasterwolf: "Its one reason I don´t drink or do drugs"...btw: Cannabis/ THC is said to have a protective effect on neurons. It has not been researched on a wider scale, but several singular studies implicate that ingesting or inhaling THC could influence the development of Alzheimer´s and other degenerative illnesses of the human brain in a positive way.

Only a little bit.

And just think of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stage_hypnosis!

This. This is what I'm most afraid of.

When I'm old, i don't think I'll really care who knows what may or may not have happened with the dog 50 years ago.

Nobody mentioned the possibility of not beaning able to maintain animals such as horses as the Dementia progresses, due to memory issues. I think this is more worrisome then saying the wrong thing to your family.

I had what I would consider delirium a few times (around 17 yo) . That is fucked up. Imagine having a void in your thinking and you can't remember anything (including how to speak). I don't do drugs and I was too young to drink. It was scary as all shit.
