This isn't really the place to ask about porn, but see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoophilia_and_the_law

EDIT: more specifically, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoophilia_and_the_law_in_the_United_States There's a table listing laws concerning porn by state.

Sorry. So correct me if I'm wrong, but if I have streamed a video in Texas there are no legal consequences?

Correct.

As long as you don't sell it, distribute it, or produce it, you're fine.

Short answer yes, long answer yes if there aren't kids in it. And I don't mean goats, those are OK.

What about that Indiana guy who went to jail for it though? I was really pissed when I found this story; even though the guy in question sounds insane, it's a scary precedent for everyone else.

This is an odd thing in the federal law. Apparently, it is illegal to receive obscene materials, but not strictly speaking to have them. I found the text of the relevant statute here, and in essence the transmission of anything "obscene" between states or countries is illegal, technically. But what is obscene? For that, we have the Miller test:

Whether the average person, applying contemporary adult community standards, finds that the matter, taken as a whole, appeals to prurient interests (i.e., an erotic, lascivious, abnormal, unhealthy, degrading, shameful, or morbid interest in nudity, sex, or excretion);

Whether the average person, applying contemporary adult community standards, finds that the matter depicts or describes sexual conduct in a patently offensive way (i.e., ultimate sexual acts, normal or perverted, actual or simulated, masturbation, excretory functions, lewd exhibition of the genitals, or sado-masochistic sexual abuse); and

Whether a reasonable person finds that the matter, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.

All of these things are a matter of debate, but I can see officials deciding that all zoo-porn matches this. Frankly, I'd be tempted to argue for its artistic and/or scientific interest in that case, but this is clearly a selectively applied law, when we consider the massive and rather open porn industry.

Yep, it seems like theoretically, all zoo porn is illegal (let's be honest, no jury is going to buy that it has literary or artistic merit, or that it doesn't "violate community standards," whatever the hell that means), even to download from the internet ("receive"). It just almost never gets prosecuted, but that's still scary. Those damn obscenities laws are something that's even worried me, as the other of some "erotic fanfic" type stuff. Of course, no one's ever gone to jail for that, but it's just stupid that it would even have to be in the back of my mind...
