Looking for information on zoosexual gods (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2015-08-12 13:48:39 by Yearningmice

G'day,

So I'm in need of information on gods, of any pantheon, who sleep with animals for whatever reason. I'm hoping many of you might know of some interesting instances of gods going zoo....

Loki is the only one that I know really fits the bill now, having been taken by a stallion.

I had considered Zeus as both bull and swan but that's not really zoo on the part of the god, he became an animal. Anyone have gods for me to google?

The only thing I recall along those lines is Pasiphae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasipha%C3%AB), who mated with a white bull and later gave birth to the Minotaur.

Thank you, I had forgotten her.

I'm hoping to get a few from other cultures, particularly eastern since that is what I know least of.

Yeah. I don't know much of eastern cultures either, so I can't help much there.

Loki turned into a mare, had sex with a stallion, and then gave birth to an eight-legged horse.

Edit: derp, already mentioned. I am aslepp.

Where does it say he turned into a mare though? I could not find that in the eddas, I think it is just an assumption.

Ah, for some reason that's the version that gets told a lot?

I think it gets sanitized for "western sensibilities..."

I really doubt any transformation actually happens. Ditto with greek myths like the swan. Greeks had a lot of bestial art uncovered in archaeological dig sites, I don't think they'd bother with that extra step...

I'll have to do some more digging when I get back from running errands since you have me curious now, but I know there are some statues around of Pan from Greek mythology having sex with goats.

Not exactly a god but ancient Egyptians practiced bestiality for religious purposes, usually with animals that represented the gods. I've read a few places that religious bestiality was practiced with the Apis bull, a real bull who was believed to be a deity.

As far as eastern mythology goes, also not a god, but I always thought the story of Pan Hu was interesting. Some variations of the myth (like the ones here and here) don't include him transforming into a man at all and he remains a dog.

The most famous representation is Roman, from Pompeii:
