eh, not really relevant to us and a fairly weak article anyway.

Well, in social media this can be seen all the time. Some people say gay marriage leads to "bestiality", then some people reply "no, it doesn't". It's really just background noise because both sides don't have put any thought into this position and "bestiality" is just a substitute for "that's bad". And that is kind of a sad situation. Don't people reinforce the ingrained presupposition that "bestiality" is bad every time they post this stuff, usually on both sides - without even thinking about it? Don't most people immediately join the "bestiality is bad" camp in order to "defend" gay marriage against this "attack"? I'm just concerned that this makes rational debate later on even harder...

I still find it fascinating:

Why compare equal marriage to that between a human and an animal? “My tweet was meant to show my opposition to gay marriage, not what I really think is coming ahead.” Aha. “I do not think gay marriage will lead to legalization of marriage with animals to be honest,” he added.

When pressed, in fact, Mukala offered a little introspection. I asked how a gay person might feel upon reading this comparison. “Gay people probably feel bad when their relationships are compared to bestiality, and I think it is unfair to make such a comparison.” His statement was meant to illustrate his point “in a light manner,” he said, but “I suppose it didn’t do that.” He admitted, during our conversation, a sense of regret.

Basically, he knows that he posts nonsense. That it's just to create controversy. Is rational discussion about "bestiality" being killed as collateral damage?

I'm thinking of these studies that test in what way people are influenced in their opinions by certain inputs. I imagine that such a study would be interesting to see to what extend people are accepting of zoophilia after being in a mudslinging "gay marriage leads to bestiality" argument vs. hearing nothing about it.

I definitely believe that this "gay marriage will lead to bestiality" claim people spew definitely holds us back as far as any gain of acceptance for us goes. People are basically saying, "Well do you know what would be really AWFUL and HORRIBLE if it were to happen?!-- If (OH MY GOD) people were allowed to have romantic and sexual relationships with nonhuman animals."

Anyone who thinks that gay marriage will lead to legalized marriage between humans and animals is sorely mistaken.

Dude, are you scanning the net continuously for stuff like that? You probably have too much time... Sound advice from me: Stop wasting time talking about it. Get yourself an animal companion and start gaining actual experience. Everyone would profit: You by spending your time with something worthy and all the rest of us by not being confronted to such irrelevant BS...;)

Yes, I have too much time. But I need to finish university first and earn enough money on my own..

Well, is it irrelevant? In the direct sense, sure. But how much does the average person think about bestiality? I think that the average person in a social network gets far more of this "irrelevant" references to "bestiality" than any serious discussion. But I still feel that every time this is mentioned, it gets a tiny bit more ingrained that "bestiality = bad", because it can be dismissed so easily as bullshit.

Yes, seeing the perspectives of the people who bring it up again and again isn't directly relevant, but an insight into us being used as a synonym for "bad people" is still something that could be worth a look... Or not..

Get yourself an animal companion and start gaining actual experience

You know, something bothers me about the way you say that. Maybe it's just a translation issue...
