It's not illegal to be a zoophile, just to act on it, even then not in every state. It's just a misdemeanor in Maine. There's so much paranoia in this community, I can't help but feel if we were all more open and vocal about ourselves, maybe there could be a movement similar to the LGBT one. Not that I would blame anyone for wishing to stay in the closet (barn?), it's a very personal decision.

One reason why some people remain silent is that the police could seize EVERY SINGLE animal they own if convicted. So it is not just a misdemeanor its every animal you own.
