I don't see anything too provocative about this. It pays to be aware of the risk of zoonotic infection in any close contact with other species. Thankfully, for most of the species that zoos are into, that risk is fairly low assuming the proper precautions are taken. Their mention of anthropomorphization is important too. Assuming too much of other species is almost as bad as assuming too little.

Too provocative?? What do you mean? O.o

I meant that I didn't see anything provocative about this article. It makes sense.

You mean that you didn't see any offensive statement regarding zoophilia and that all that the article said in regards to its topic was reasonable? Provocation seems out of place and I'm confused-- Were you expecting to be provoked?

Yes, that is what I mean. "Provocative" in the context I used it roughly means "controversial" or "tending to stimulate argument".

Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not seeing any statements regarding zoophilia at all. When human-animal relationships were mentioned it seemed to be in the broad sense of pets, livestock, pests, and game hunting. I mean, I really doubt the author thinks bestiality is 'an integral part of our lives'.

ursusem 1 point on 2015-12-27 08:38:09

No, I know that it wasn't saying anything about zoophilia. It was talking about when humans and animals come together physically closely as in the ways that you mention. Of course bestiality is another situation of physical closeness. I was just trying to understand SunTzuSaidThat's perspective better.

Ah, I think they were just saying that there's not anything really debatable about saying 'zoonotic diseases and anthropomorphism exist'.

It's an interesting cautionary tale, to be sure. It seemed to dance around the point it was trying to make though. While the variety of zoonoses does not increase greatly with more intimate interactions than the general population indulges in, the degree of exposure does. It's good food for thought for anyone who didn't do their own research and relied on beastie guides for information.
