Zoophilia in the Pokemon Franchise (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2016-10-09 03:31:13 by Swibblestein

The Pokemon series actually has a few canon references to Zoophilia. I thought it might be interesting to list a few of them, see what you think.

First, in the fourth generation, there are a series of three pieces of "Sinnoh Folklore" you can read by going to a library in the game. The third piece of Folklore seems boring. In english, it says that humans and Pokemon used to eat at the same table. This is, however, a mistranslation. In Japanese, it says something quite different:

There once were Pokémon that married people.
There once were people who married Pokémon.
This was a normal thing because long ago people and Pokémon were the same.

Human / Pokemon marriage seems to be canon, then, which is pretty interesting.

On a more recent note, here's the description of the Pokemon Sandalit:

Salandit emits toxic gas, together with flames, from the base of its tail. This poisonous gas has a sweet smell, and anyone who unknowingly breathes it in will become dizzy. Salandit is not a very powerful Pokémon, but its cunning nature allows it to battle fiercely by throwing its opponents off balance. Salandit females not only release toxic gases, they can also emit pheromones that attract males of all species, including Pokémon and humans. Inhaling these pheromones may cause opponents to be controlled by Salandit’s will.

I love how they actually included that humans will become attracted to Sandalit females. Though, it seems some Pokemon don't need pheromones to be attractive:

There are some other speculative examples, but those are my favorite, because they are the most clear.

Notably absent: As far as I know, no game has had any sort of condemnation of human and Pokemon relationships.

They could say "we meant pokemon like gothitelle" if people accuse them of being pro-zoophilia.

Just like it's totally normal and okay to be attracted to monkeys!

...right?

Swibblestein 2 points on 2016-10-09 04:54:36

Uh... Except two of the Pokemon with any specifics to them are Mightyena and Sandalit (as mentioned in the above post). So... no?

This is actually pretty interesting and unexpected.
I wonder if there's more information on this...

So this means I can marry a Ninetales, riiiiiight?

I wouldn't see why you couldn't in the Pokemon universe. I personally would go for a charizard... So hot, literally and figuratively...

Sure. Just don't grab her tails during, unless you want to be cursed.

Except it's not bestiality or Zoophilia.

The Pokemon series actually has a few canon references to Zoophilia

Define: Zoophilia is a paraphilia involving a sexual fixation on non-human animals.

Pokemon are not real and not 'animals' even in their own world. Pokemon literally means pocket monsters.

So Human Pokemon relations have more in common with art or stories depicting Smurfs or Trolls with humans. That's a different thing.

Just sayin'

Edit: Because of the bad choice of anology but somehow people missed the fact that what I'm saying is Pokemon are all fantasy 'Monsters' or 'Creatures' not animals which is what they would have to be to be defined as zoophilia. So Human Pokemon relations have more in common with art or stories depicting a Sphinx or Dragons with humans. It's fantasy art maybe even closer to furry YIFF stuff but what it isn't is Zoophilia That's a different thing.

Swibblestein 3 points on 2016-10-09 09:01:31

Smurfs and trolls are humanoids. They can speak, they're bipedal, they've got a human body shape, they have more or less the minds of humans...

Pokemon do not speak. They act as non-humans. Many are based off of real animals, and definitely look the part. If they were part of our world, most would be considered animals, and regardless, they ARE the animals of their world.

So no.

Susitar Canidae 3 points on 2016-10-09 09:07:35

Pokémon are somewhere inbetween. Some legendary Pokémon are depicted as deities, and some of them (at least in the anime) can even speak or communicate through telepathy.

On the other hand, most of the common pokémon species are that world's equivalent to animals. There are references to Pokémon being kept as pets, they do not speak, they are based on real-life animals (Miltank = cow, Mightyena = hyena, and so on).

I think the pokémon fandom calls this poképhilia. :P

Swibblestein 3 points on 2016-10-09 09:16:44

In the case of two of the Pokemon who have specific references to them (Mightyena and Sandalit), they'd clearly fall under the "regular animals" umbrella. So that's nice.

Poképhilia is a neat thing cause it lets a person unsure about the idea arbitrarily decide that pokémon count as sapient (or as some people like to say, "sentient") which allows to explore the idea of interspecies relationships without disturbing the view on the real world big time. While accepting some real world animals as our peers comes with all sorts of consequences for worldview.

Those legends about humans marrying Pokémon reminds me of real-life legends about humans and animals marrying or having offspring. In greek mythology, there are stories such as the minotaur. And in Japan, isn't it said that the Emperor descends from a sea deity who takes the form of a dragon?

In many folk tales, at least in Europe, there are stories about a woman having to marry or live with an animal (often a bear) or some sort of human-like 'beast' (beauty and the beast), but in those cases it's often a human transformed into an animal.

That little snippet is probably meant to be similar to those old legends, but the English translation probably didn't want to upset people and changed it.

....aaaand we´re discussing fantasy bullshit again. You all know the difference between reality and your monitor, right? Right?? Guys???

And everybody wonders why society does not only see us zoophiles as total perverts running around with a constant hard-on, ready to fuck any animal, but as totally infantile manchilds disconnected from everyday life and reality....

Falling in "love" with a fictional character is basically the same as falling in "love" with one of your teachers or a pop star when you´re a teenager....it´s the fact this will always stay a fantasy what makes this so soothing and comfortable. A real person/animal could reject you , a fictional character won´t... Threads like this keep reassuring me in my theory: infantilisation of mankind is getting worse and worse...frightened little kinds distracted by their fantasies are the best consumers to have.

Zoophilia is mutual (!) love between species...a fictional "pocket monster" (that´s how I call my penis, btw ^^ ) cannot respond to you at all. "Falling in love" with a pokemon is, by definition, not zoophilia...and, by definition, not even love.

"We crave what we see...." Hannibal Lecter

Literally no one has said that they've fallen in love in a Pokemon in this topic.

No one has confused fantasy with reality. No one has given any indication that they don't understand the difference between the two.

Apparently YOU are unable to distinguish reality from fiction, because you can't tell the difference between the fictional narrative you decided to tell yourself before even reading this thread, and what is actually factually happening in this thread.

You take every opportunity possible to be a dick for no discernible reason. I'm sick of it.

I've tried to get along with you. I've given you the benefit of the doubt so many times. I've done my best to interpret what you say as favorably as possible. But honestly at this point I can't help but conclude that you just enjoy being a dick.

WarCanine Love knows no boundaries between species or gender 3 points on 2016-10-10 15:10:01

That's not the point of this post.
It's just interesting that Zoophilia is somewhat hinted in Pokemon.
And so what if people are attracted to fictional characters?
It doesn't mean anything at all. It's normal. Thousands of people shamelessly admit this. Honestly, I'm sick of your negativity. This sub is already negative enough and you aren't really helping at all.

Yeah, plenty of furries are into yiff(or hell, just into being furries in general) which is basically the same as pokephilia and that's not too out of the ordinary nowadays lol.

Update on the whole thing:

Salandit's female-only evolution, Salazzle, is bipedal and enjoys having her crotch scratched.

Swibblestein 2 points on 2016-11-30 20:06:10

To be fair, a good number of Pokemon like having their crotches rubbed.
