Rian, a filly I bought at the slaughter auction. A poem and eulogy (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2017-01-07 00:45:12 by silverwolf-tippysmat

"I wanted to save you.

I saw in your eyes sadness,

in your body abuse,

but you knickered to me and said hello,

and I wanted to save you.

A warm place, deep in straw.

Some warm treatment, with meds and food,

three days of neck rubs,

shared breath,

my soul trying to absorb your pain.

Last night I lay cold in your stall,

you lay beside with your head in my lap,

and I prayed for the vet,

though the snow was quick and deep.

I covered you with a blanket when you shivered,

and my coat.

And I wanted to save you.

I called on my gods,

in my native tongue,

and bid them guide you home,

as your breath came ragged and short.

Little nameless filly,

I wanted to save you,

I hope in some way I did..."

She died early this morning, unnamed, but not unloved.

I have to fire up the backhoe, and dig the frozen ground yet before I sleep. But I want to name her.

Good journey Rea`lte Rian...

I had her a whole 3 days...

I read this elsewhere. I'm so sorry. Know that what you did (adopting a animal that may not be healthy) is one of the harder things to do emotionally, and the reward is not always sweet. But it is always a good thing to do. Never doubt that.

My thanks, if nothing else. And I'm certain you had hers.

Thank you so much for trying to save her, and for being there for her

I was in a similar situation with a puppy, it is a very sad place to go to.

This sort of thing hits me so hard as the case of a warden who shot a pet deer because she was an "illegal" pet.

Those things always get me too. It seems like there should be some kind of better alternative. Anything really.

There are. but they rarely if ever use them, because, well, for reasons i dont really know. tigers are legal, wolf dogs are legal, but deer are apparently "too dangerous" and must be destroyed on sight. Even does, which can be like dogs if treated right.

There's sanctuaries, transferring to a deer farm (which somehow are legal while pet deer arent), or just letting them actually keep it.

Deer are a weird licensing mess, there's no question about that.

Some states allow non-native deer species to be kept as pets. Other states only native species can be kept as pets. Some states allow both. Some states allow neither. Some allow one or the other with a license. I mean how confusing can you make something?

I get one part of it though... Whitetails (yes, even does) are a bit more "jumpy" and have a tendency to "self-destruct" more than your average dog, so at least for them I get that... but seriously, not to the point that you must destroy the animal or make it licensing hell to own one.

when i got clyde, i didnt even know you could get licenses for them, and by the time i did know, i realized it would likely be impossible for me in my current situation, and far too risky if they found him before i was approved.

[deleted] 1 point on 2017-01-09 23:54:53

Be careful then, man.

I try... and sometimes i dont think its enough.

The problem with getting a license or registering your pet is that, then, they get to know that you have it. When Barac Hussein Trump gets to power 4 years later and makes the ownership of your pet illegal, he will know that you have it and then come out for you and take it. That is one reason why mandatory registries or licenses are very dangerous for citizens.

If you own a controversial pet - such as dogs from certain breeds - and you have registered it, you are just a law away from losing it. If you have such pet but it is not registered, it still has a chance if the law changes for the worst.

Damn. I never thought of that way... Though i doubt banning deer farming is high up on their lists.

Which is funny because i have the same philosophy with ham radio.

I dont know what id do if the same happened to my clyde (also a deer). Probably kill myself, but i try not to think about.

I'd probably find the warden and set fire to something he cared about. As Howard once wrote, barbarians are always more polite than civilized men, because civilized men can afford to be dicks without having their skulls cracked open. If your acts can bring dire consequences, you are less of a dick, because you could have to back your dickish acts with a broken face. Nowadays, law enforcers don't expect any dire consequence to come upon them when they are dicks and shoot your pet, and hence have less of a reason not to bully you and spit on your rights or the rights of your four legged relatives.
