A more formal introduction... (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2017-01-11 08:54:13 by AmoreBestia Pro-zoophile, non-zoophile.

Hey all! It seems alot more of you were aware of me come election time than even I anticipated(if you were not, then hello!), and a good number of you trusted me enough for me to be charged with helping moderate this community... but I'm probably a bit of a mystery to many of you. I don't want to be just another hammer if I can help it, and a proper introduction is a step in the right direction if I want to prevent that, I feel.

The most pertinent detail is that I'm not inclined to having a sexual or romantic relationship with a nonhuman animal, I suppose. To add, my physical and romantic attractions are also extremely weak. I've never given it serious thought before, but I suppose I'm pansexual, not that it makes much difference to me. I'm not afraid of the birds and the bees, nor am i averse to understanding romantic relationships; I'm more than eager to discuss them. As you can probably guess, that extends to the nonhumans as well.

I was raised in a sexually conservative household, but I almost exclusively considered the ethics and safety of different sexualities after middle school. Morality turned out to be a terribly malleable and frequently amended amalgamation of rules that nobody could agree on, and even fewer knew the origin or reason of in my eyes. So, for sexuality at least, it made sense to simply ask whether it caused harm when done right(to the partners and those around them)... and for interspecies sex, it didn't. My philosophy has matured alongside me, of course, but the idea of considering harm first stuck with me.

I always had a great respect for nonhuman animals. I thought from a very young age that their agency was severely understated, and understand nonhuman vertebrates and humans as deserving equal consideration to this day(where such consideration is viable). As an extreme example, I knew why killing a dog in cold blood got you a slap on the wrist compared to killing a human in cold blood, but the distinction was still rather nonsensical to me. I've lived with nonhuman animals all my life, considered them brothers, sisters, friends, and one a mentor, even, so I suppose I have a bit of a bias in that regard. Still, the reason why we 'kill' nonhumans, but 'murder' humans is something to consider.

If my disposition until now has been any indication, I'm pretty hard to provoke and generally don't get worked up over things. It follows I'm not a very emotional person by nature either, so don't worry about offending me(though I do prefer it when people are also unprovoked and tactful). I'm more concerned about not provoking you guys most of the time.

I'm currently studying to become a genetic engineer, but will be minoring in molecular neuroscience and have been studying general psychology and animal behavior(aka veterinary psychology) on the side. I have an interest in working to benefit nonhuman animals with the expertise I acquire; work that I think at least some of you will be quite pleased to see. I'd prefer to keep the specifics secret for now, but just know that your success is my success, as it relates to what I want to do.

I also like short walks in the park and drinking hot tea on snowy days.

I tried to cover everything that you all might be interested in, but I might have absolutely missed some stuff. If you've got questions, comments, feel the urge to call me a narcissist, etc., etc., you know what to do. :D

You continue to make me feel good about what was honestly, initially a bit of a shaky tossup vote between you and battlecrops.

I look forward to working with you in the future on this reddit, as a fellow advocate and friend.

I feel like not answering "dinosaur" is betraying my childhood...

BurnedRowan big ol' pupper 3 points on 2017-01-11 19:05:02

I'm curious: would a dino zoo be a necrozoophile?

WarCanine Love knows no boundaries between species or gender 3 points on 2017-01-11 19:47:03

Depends.
Dinosaurs may be dead, but to be a necro you'd need to be attracted to the fact that they are dead.
If this zoophile is specifically attracted to the fact that it's a dinosaur, then no.

^^Fuck, ^^you ^^reminded ^^me ^^that ^^there ^^probably ^^is ^^a ^^non-exclusive ^^necropedozoophile ^^out ^^there.

Ahem....non-avian dinosaurs are all gone, but dinosaurs still exist. :P

I'm attracted to dinosaurs, or at least our depictions of them, which has always thrown me off a little bit since we don't REALLY know exactly what dinosaurs looked like, or how they behaved... And as our understanding of dinosaurs changes so do the depictions, but I stay consistently attracted to them no matter what the changes are so far, so I guess I'm safe :P

tfw you'll never have a raptor gf though

born too late to date dinos, born too early to date cloned dinos.

Battlecrops cat kisser extraordinaire 1 point on 2017-01-13 23:32:28

EXACTLY.

We can't clone dinosaurs, sadly. What DNA is left is mostly mtDNA and the rest is a proverbial soup of nucleotides that are so heavily fragmented that reconstructing them would effectively be a dice roll. Best we could do is make decent fakes.

Damn man don't crush my dreams with your hard science!!

Our fakes might turn out to be healthier and smarter than the real deal. :P

Lived with cats most of my life, it was probably what triggered the disconnect between my perception of nonhuman animal intelligence and the human understanding of it... but my favorite is probably the Perentie, native to Australia.

Hell yeah monitor lizards are awesome, I wouldn't own one myself but I've met a lot of smaller to mid-sized ones (like water monitors, I think that's the biggest I've met) at reptile shows.

Hi!

I'm currently doing an A level in biology, and am also interested in the field of genetic engineering, so it seems we share a common interest.

Hope to see you around the subreddit!
