Wet dog smell (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2017-07-12 22:01:29 by Susitar Canidae

I often hear people talk about the smell of wet dogs as something bad, annoying. The disadvantage of having a dog. That yeah, a lot of dogs are happy when they get to swim, but then you'd have a wet dog, ew.

I've never met a dog that smelled that bad when wet. I've met dogs that definitely get a stronger odour after a swim, but it's still their own doggy smell. Which I think smells nice.

Is this a thing that only happens with certain dogs, and I've had the luck to not run into a stinky dog? Or is it a zoo thing to like the way dogs smell, even when other people think it's too much?

I like wet dog smell. I like most dog smells, honestly - nothing better than burying your nose in a fluffy chest/back and taking a big whiff! It's such a nice scent imho... I've noticed other people don't tend to be as excited to experience all the different tactile sensations of just 'normal' contact with dogs.

However, a dog that splashes about in a muddy, stagnant pond is going to smell really unpleasant.

TokenHorseGuy 2 points on 2017-07-12 23:06:38

In my experience it is breed-dependent, and even individual.

electricfoxx 3 points on 2017-07-12 23:40:16

I'm fine with big dogs, but small dogs smell gross.

Can confirm. Have a hound that smells way stronger than my retriever-gsd mix.

I love the smell of most dogs. It's always a pleasure to be around them, wet or not.

In my opinion I think that it is part of what makes a zoo a zoo. We like dog smells (or are at least more tolerant) because they are what we are attracted to. I personally find the smell of a woman.....even a CLEAN and DRY one :).....absolutely disgusting. But I have friends who have a mustache and who maybe "got lucky" the night before go around inhaling the odor of the woman trapped there.....yuk :)

I not only find wet dog smell at WORST neutral and at best nice.......I also experience the smell of expressed anal gland the same way :) And when I'm in the mood for love it is a turn-on for me. I agree with the other posters so far that {natural} dog smells to a dog zoo are mostly pleasant......or at least not what others would call "stinky dog".

I think its like some other bad smells, like skunk. Most people cant stand it, but some people happen to like it.

Personally wet dog doesnt bother me too much, but i dont enjoy it

the_egoldstein 1 point on 2017-07-13 01:19:51

If it's light, I really do like the musky smell of skunk scent, but a fresh blast at close range is just too potent for me.

the_egoldstein 1 point on 2017-07-13 01:18:58

I'm well into the "likes wet dog smell" camp.

I think it may be a part of our attraction. It can really change someone's feelings on these things. Attraction almost changes everything of what you see in someone.
Others in the house comment on how much I stink because I smell like my dog, but I only like it.
I don't love wet dog smell, but I don't dislike it either. Their paws, vaginas, fur and for some reason their muzzles smell really nice, or at least for my dog.
Y'know, I didn't mind fox smell at all and I hear that they stink horribly all the time. It was a strong smell, but it wasn't bad.

Hotdogzew-Fiel 1 point on 2017-07-13 17:53:10

Where have you smelled foxes? I'd kill for an opportunity to smell their paws... okay that's weird sentence even for me

SCP_2547 2 points on 2017-07-13 18:53:43

It was at some place where they had many different exotic animals, mostly to sell them, but it's something that happens every year so it's not some kind of conservation center or a zoo or anything. There's no gaurantee they'll have foxes every time either.
And I wonder, why do you want to smell their paws specifically? I didn't because it'd look weird smelling a few weeks old foxes' paw with so much humans around me.
I think they wouldn't really let you anyways, or at least adults, because that's how foxes are. To be honest, I'm actually more interested in those genitals. Especially those of a female, because I've never even seen a picture of it.
Fox pee is said to be strong and stinky, so I wonder what their genitals would smell like. ^^^or ^^^taste

They probably smell like corn chips.

I'm missing something here.
So I'm going to go ahead and ruin your joke.
Why do you think so?

Also, I'm not sure if I'd be happy with that. As long as it smells sweaty then I like it.
Mmmm, sweaty paws... It feels great to know I've licked the floor many times.

AmoreBestia Pro-zoophile, non-zoophile. 2 points on 2017-07-14 00:36:53

It's because of pseudomonas and proteus bacteria that seem to colonize the paws of canines fairly readily.

understandable , have a great day

Hotdogzew-Fiel 1 point on 2017-07-15 04:55:29

Hey man, to each their own. I happen to like paws. Of course I'm not talking about licking between the toes of a fox that's been stepping in its own feces for hours. It's mostly the though of it that makes sense to me... if that makes sense. It's hard to describe. I just really like paws. They don't have to be caked in urine though.

Their genitals are a given. Id paye money to slide my tounge all up in that tiny vulva in one go. They're like 30 pounds or so, so I'm not sure how impressive their knot might be, but hey. Just makes it easier to swallow amirite

SCP_2547 1 point on 2017-07-15 14:15:55

Yeah I know I know. I like paws too, I even lick them without washing sometimes. I seriously love some sweaty paws.
I think you mean that you have a paw fetish, maybe? I'm not sure if I do, it feels really weird and it seems nothing too sexual and sometimes I even lose interest.
But I still dream about her putting her paws around my dick, take it in her mouth and use her tongue from the inside. Or even that she could wank me off with very lubed paws too.

Also, foxes are the smallest canids so they do have pretty small genitals. I bet no one ever actually had sex with a fox, or at least didn't have vaginal sex with them. (I bet there's no better feeling in life than that.)
I do have an album of fox dicks, though. I'd say that I'd love to choke on that, but it looks like I can't...

I think a big part of it is how used to it you are. Personally when I haven't been around dogs in a long time even dry dog scent can be overwhelming until I adjust. Beyond that individuals have differences in intensity and how unpleasant their particular smell is. Dogs with oilier coats like labs and dogs that tend to be outside more smell stronger.

just throwing my vote in for "likes wet dog smell" and "thinks it might be dog-zoo related".

Lateoss Wuz gud 1 point on 2017-07-13 06:40:55

Yeah, not a dog zoo.... really dont like dog smell at all...

Im gonna just hop onto another thread now...

Edit: Im pretty sure that liking wet dog smell is zoo-related, but I also know non-zoos who like wet dog smell (at least I think they arent zoos)

AmoreBestia Pro-zoophile, non-zoophile. 1 point on 2017-07-13 07:16:18

Dog smell is pretty unpleasent for me, but not so much that I can't ignore it I suppose. It would make sense that dog zoos would find it pleasent though. Perhaps it's similar to how people can find the 'musk' of their spouses to be appealing because of their attraction to the other.

Cats smell nice to me though. Well, mine do at least. Probably because they make it a habit to sleep in my unattended clean laundry and are basically smell magnets.

Parlov! :D

Zoo Mind:
Dog Close Cuddle Sex Love = Good
Dog Smell = Dog Close Cuddle Sex Love
Wet Dog = Even more dog smell.
Wet Dog = Even better!!!

General Mind:
Dog Smell = Alright
Wet Dog = Gotta get you dry, air blower, damn so much work to get your hair right.
Wet Dog = Damn it!...

So maybe, you just find that what you love, and what you have had good experience with, is a nice smell overall. Our noses are heavily linked with memories. Apart from instinctive reactions, like poop, all these interesting scents are learned, I think tomato ketchup smells worse than puke, that's because when I was a kid I'd tend to get a stomache with tomato ketckup, and if the scent that you have there come from the doggy you were sharing your night the other day, of course it smells great. And isn't it weird that so many people like the scent of their own farts?...

tencendur_ Neeeigh 1 point on 2017-07-13 13:01:02

Not a dog zoo here.

My dogs have a stronger smell when wet, and I don't find it to be a problem. Actually, I am very neutral towards regular dog smell. If I leave four dogs having a nap for an hour in the same room and I enter later, I will find that it smells very strongly, but I won't feel bad or good about it.

It is a bit different with horses, I actually like horse smell, and it gets even stronger and better when they have been working and are tired and sweaty...

silverwolf-tippysmat 3 points on 2017-07-13 13:03:27

In my experience, it is the individual dog when they're wet... AND how well taken care of, fed, and groomed the dog is in general!

I've had individual dogs, especially males, that just smelled too strong when wet. Now this could be because I'm a female only zoo that I don't care for the males stronger musk. However I CAN tolerate it well.

I've also noticed that non-zoos who feed garbage foods, seldom groom their animals etc. tend to have fouler smelling animals, male or female, that get way worse when wet.

I think all these factors come into play. I also think we zoos take better care of our animals, thus perceive the smell to be much more enjoyable, wet or dry.

Just my opinion folks, silverwolf

Hotdogzew-Fiel 1 point on 2017-07-13 17:50:26

There have been studies that show our perception of smell changes based on the source. If it's a smelly hobo woman smell you are disgusted, if it's your wife of 10 years musk you learn to like it to an extent.

Same with dogs. You may not like someone else's dog wet smell but you love your own. I've found this personally, since I am literally always with my dog I don't notice his smell as much as someone else would. If he's gone a couple days without a bath (but not actually dirty) then I like his smell. Everyone else will recognize that as dirty dog smell and tell me he needs a bath. It's fine though, I love bathing with my dog
