Moderator Election (self.zoophilia)
submitted 2015-04-08 12:55:56 by [deleted]

Hello.

After a week's research and contemplation (with special thanks to /u/AliasTheReindeerPone), the moderator election will utilise Single Transferable Voting (Wikipedia, CGP Grey). Two new mods will be selected from the 12 who expressed interest and are therefore listed on the ballot. On a personal note, I went against my original plans and decided to put my own name in the mix as well. I look forward to seeing the turnout.

The ballot requires you to order all listed candidates from 1-12, with 1 being your preferred candidate, through 12 as your least favoured. The form will not allow you to list the same number for multiple candidates, or more than one number for the same candidate, nor will it let you leave any candidate unnumbered. The ballot will be open for a week - please, only vote once, and do not abuse the system.

Thank all of you for your contributions to this community. It's been a delight and an honour to mod for you for as long as I have. It's been a privilege to get to know you, and I respect you all.

Here is the ballot.

~ T-V

Thank you! I think those who put their names forward should say a little something here for everyone. Mine is:

Please don't vote for me, while I'd be happy to serve there are so many great names on that list that I'd rather not! :) But if you must you must. I tossed my name there in case we didn't get the exceptional turn out we did. Well done to all those who put their name forward.

Not a lot of people here really know me, but i threw my name in anyway. I don't really expect a lot of votes given the shitshow ive put on lately, but what the heck. I'd be happy to serve this community.

I agree with /u/Yearningmice; it would make sense for each of us to say something, just to let people know what we're all about.

I am one of the newer users here, and looking at some of the names on that ballot, I'm sure there are people more deserving of the mod positions. But as for myself, all I really want to do is keep the community going the way it has been. In the time I've been here I've seen interesting links, insightful discussions, and lots (Figuratively tons) of support. To me that's wonderful, and I wouldn't want to change a thing.

...Except the stylesheet. I might want to change that, just a bit.

And it's good to see that you're running T-V. I know I'm on the ballot, but you still have my first vote, and I hope you'll have the first votes of many.

I'd like to think I've been an active member of the community as of recent, and although I have not been here absurdly long, I'd like to think I am capable of providing incoming community members with support and advice. Regardless, I will still be here in this community to stay.

Well I'm a pretty long term member and have watched this sub grow slowly but surely within the past year. I want to make sure we keep that growth on track by making this place one of the best sources of zoo discussion on the internet. Echo box, no. Place for safe and respectable discussion and help for zoophiles (and those who are still unsure), yes!

I don't think this place needs any changes at the moment, so I guess I'd just make sure any discussion that goes on here isn't insulting to us. I have no issue with swinging the ban hammer on those deemed worthy >:)

Basically I just want to do this so I can continue giving back to the community that helped me so much in my early days. You can have a look at my username to see what kind of place I had to drag myself out from and I'm not sure I could've done it without speaking to other zoos.

So there we go :)

Thanks and good luck everyone!

Since everyone else seems to be, I'll comment here too. I put my name forward on the off chance that no-one else really would, so that I could prevent someone striding in and changing things. I think that T-V has done a fantastic job so far, and I fully expect him to be selected as moderator in a landslide, so my fears were unfounded. I'd be hugely flattered if anyone voted for me, since I feel there are far better candidates on that list, but if I was selected, I'd do my best to maintain the high standard that this sub has come to expect in terms of both moderation and posting.

/u/Frostfedora here. Alt account for safety purposes.

Not much to say. I pretty much just want to keep the subreddit the way things are now. I suppose what I bring to the table is that I can moderate the subreddit every day for almost all day as I'm currently unemployed and never go outside.

Kynophile Dog lover 3 points on 2015-04-08 16:51:20

Good day to you all. I've been here for about 4 months, and while I don't comment much, when I do I try to say something worth reading. I know more about zoophilia academically than I do through life experience, which makes me more open to outside voices (assuming they are respectful and not repeatedly terrible in their posts).

My greatest asset as a possible mod is (oddly) moderate sensibilities. I would hate for this subreddit to become either an echo chamber or a site for endless flame wars, and so I would help run things by keeping this community pleasant and informative, particularly to those seeking advice.

I agree with Alias about the stylesheet (though I know too little about CSS to implement such changes myself).

Regardless of how the ballot turns out, the community will be better served by spreading moderator privileges and having diverse opinions represented at the top.

BTW, all advocacy aside, I'd recommend that voters here research the candidates, see what they've posted around here. More information is often helpful to the democratic process, assuming it's not spun for an agenda.

Will we be able to see the final results when voting is done or will you just announce the two mods?

Surprised to see my own name on there when I hadn't said anything about it, I'm really honored you'd consider me "mod material." I haven't been super active here lately but I've tried my best to help out this community any way I could, thank you so much for putting me on there. It really means a lot.

HeartBeatOfTheBeast Hoof and Claw 1 point on 2015-04-08 20:43:04

Yeah, out of curiosity can you release the final results?

Tundrovyy-Volk Canidae 1 point on 2015-04-09 08:23:56

I think I'll release the top 6, out of respect to the lower-ranking half.

I heard from some folks that you were interested, and you do such a brilliant job with your blog that I couldn't leave you unlisted. I'm glad you don't resent my choice. (:

How are you going to count who the top 6 is in STV? The final 6 to not be eliminated?

Tundrovyy-Volk Canidae 1 point on 2015-04-09 12:48:56

I believe so, yes.

About this post: https://np.reddit.com/r/zoophilia/comments/2yb5pe/why_does_this_bother_me_so_much/

I am curious whether the mod candidates want to share some thoughts about it. Are you happy with such posts and want to see more of them here? Do you just not mind them? Do you think something is "off" about them, but tolerate them here? Or something else?

Because I thought something was "off" how the op spoke about fucking the dogs like speaking about objects but I didn't say anything because I thought it wasn't the place to do and maybe I just misinterpreted it.

I don't know if it helps at all, but I think it would be good to see how potential mods would approach this and what their views are.

edit: I'm probably not going to say much to the responses and I don't want to accuse anyone of anything with it. I am just curious about the opinions and thought something like that might be a way to see who we'd like as a mod.

AliasTheReindeerPone Short Christmas Horse 1 point on 2015-04-08 22:09:25

Sure, I could share my thoughts.

I'll start by saying that posts like this one rub me the wrong way. They seem false, but beyond that, they seem out of place. There's nothing wrong with having a fantasy or wanting attention, but I think the more explicit posts (What few there are) belong elsewhere. I'm not saying we should outlaw all things sexual, but rather, redirect most things pornographic.

/u/zoolet's post on the other hand, I was much more open to. In addition to appearing more genuine, /u/zoolet's post posed a scenario for legitimate discussion. True, there was still something off; I agree that the dogs didn't seem to have much of a say.

I think the difference is in the tone. /u/thisgirllovesdogs used blatantly erotic language. Alternatively, /u/zoolet was asking for other perspectives, and if objectification came up, I get the impression that he would have been willing to address it.

So I would say I'm content with the type of post you brought up, because true or not, they give us food for thought.

HeartBeatOfTheBeast Hoof and Claw 3 points on 2015-04-08 22:40:11

I disagree with your thoughts on thisgirllovesdogs post. It was given a score of 19 points with 91% up voted, meaning that the communtity as a whole was fine with the post.

AliasTheReindeerPone Short Christmas Horse 2 points on 2015-04-08 22:47:11

Your disagreement is justified, though I think that as a zoophile, you can understand where I'm coming from when I say that conforming to what the majority wants isn't necessarily the best course of action.

actuallynotazoophile ok, I lied 1 point on 2015-04-09 01:06:01

I try and take these kind of things at face value. Its so easy to jump to conclusions and like I say in there, we don't have any other details to go off. Besides, If we tell him his friend is abusing animals that doesn't help his current predicament. Abuse is bad though, looking back on that we probably should've said a bit more about it.

I'm not fussed if we see more of these type of posts or not. At least if they come here they might not go to BF...

Kynophile Dog lover 2 points on 2015-04-09 05:55:42

Questions like the ones in this post do come from a place that many of us find disagreeable, yes, but it's more important to me that the poster described his problem honestly and was receptive to feedback. It's possible that he was a troll, but unlikely given the direction the conversation took.

In short, I don't mind questions that some would find annoying or insensitive (for example, talking about his partner's dogs as property and feeling entitled to sex with them in some way), so long as a productive conversation results, as it did in this case. Had the conversation gone into hateposts about how selfish people thought he was, that would be a problem, but the original post was not enough of one to be concerned about.

Yearningmice 1 point on 2015-04-09 12:14:21

I dunno, seems a pretty fair comment from the OP and the answers were well done. I cannot see this as a problem for a public zoo sub. People get butt hurt in relationship for all kinds of reasons and stuff like this happens. IMHO it was an odd situation all around and the request for advice brought light to issues that some feel we shouldn't deal with.

So more of them, maybe? It is sometimes hard to separate the serious from the false but as a group we tend to handle these things really well.

SunTzuSaidThat 1 point on 2015-04-09 03:18:42

Hi everyone! My name was a bit of a last minute addition (thanks Tundrovyy!), and although I know I haven't been the most active contributor to this community, I love to see it do well and thrive.

Good luck to all the candidates!

HeartBeatOfTheBeast Hoof and Claw 1 point on 2015-04-10 22:07:16

Tundra-Wolf just curious, but what does day-to-day moderating entail? I mean over the course of a week how many things require moderator intervention?

Battlecrops dogs, cats, snakes, ungulates 2 points on 2015-04-11 03:07:38

I'd be interested in knowing this too.

Dogsnogg 1 point on 2015-04-12 09:19:24

Oh, hey. I guess I started actively watching this sub a bit too late to vote!

If you need mods in the future, I have a lot of experience in moderating zoophile forums and I'd be interested in joining the team.

Nowix 1 point on 2015-04-12 11:25:10

Vote has been submitted. Wasn't easy. Decided to grade everyone so I could order everyone properly. Not easy but it's worth it :)
